The Government Office for the South East delivers Government policy in the region and acts as a voice for the South East in central Government. We are responsible for:
- Overseeing renewal work around the region and feeding back to CLG on what is going on locally.
- Administering renewal funds on behalf of CLG.
- Promoting and supporting the development and performance of Local Strategic Partnerships (LSPs) within the two South East neighbourhood renewal areas and ensuring they are inclusive, with public, private and voluntary and community sectors working together.
- Working with local authorities, LSPs and voluntary and community organisations to implement and monitor the performance of community and neighbourhood renewal strategies.
- Working with colleagues in other Government Departments to tackle issues associated with crime, health, low education achievements, unemployment and poor housing conditions. The Government’s Floor Targets Interactive Database tracks the progress of this work against various targets.
- Acting as liaison point for CLG and others involved with neighbourhood renewal, ensuring that knowledge about what works is properly collected and applied.
