Objective 3 aims to support the running costs of schemes that provide a range of measures to help jobless people into work, by upgrading their skills and therefore their employment potential. It also supports retraining/improving skills of employees and the promotion of life long learning. Ways in which it does this are as follows :-
- Promoting active labour market policies to reduce unemployment
- Improving access to the labour market, with a special emphasis on people threatened by social exclusion
- Enhancing employment opportunities through lifelong education and training programmes
- Promoting measures that enable social and economic changes
- Promoting equal opportunities for men and women
