The responses received following Stage 1 were reviewed by the Department
for Business Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (now Dept for Business,
Innovation and Skills) and a draft Assisted Areas map was produced.
This map formed the basis of Stage 2 of the consultation.
On 10 October 2006, the Government published its response to the Assisted
Areas public consultation. The map was formally approved by the European
Commission on 20 December 2006.

The revised map became operational on 1 January 2007, and highlights the
designation of Assisted Areas from 2007 to 2013.
